Don't go into business because you want to make money but because you have identified needs and want to provide solutions.

Once you have decided what type of business you want to start and the investment requirements the next thing to do is a feasibility study.

A feasibility study involves gathering, analyzing and evaluating information with the purpose of answering the question: "Should I go into this business?"

It is very important to set your objectives at the onset.

Objectives of a business must be SMART: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Timely.

Franchise

Franchise is where one party grants another party the right to use its trademark or trade name as well as certain business systems and process, to produce and market a good or service according to certain specifications. - Business Dictionary

Many small business owners have been helped to a sound start by investing in a franchise. Franchising can minimize your risk, it will enable you to start your business under a name and trademark which already has public acceptance.

Personnel Selection

Careful choice of personnel is essential. To select the right employees, determine beforehand what you want each one to do.

Look ahead and plan your hiring to assure an organization of individuals capable of performing every essential function.

Selecting the right person is extremely important. Ask your questions carefully to find out everything about the applicant that is pertinent to the job.

Consider, with judgment, any negative comments you hear and what is not said.

Personnel Training

A well-selected employee is only a potential asset to your business. Whether or not he or she becomes a real asset depends upon your training.

Training is a continuous process which becomes constructive supervision.

Good supervision will reduce the cost of operating your business by cutting down on the number of employee errors. If errors are corrected early, employees will get more satisfaction from their jobs and perform better.

Business plan

A business plan is a formal statement containing a set of business goals, alongside the reasons why the belief for reaching those goals is attainable, the plan for reaching those goals.

A good business plan should be designed to answer the following questions:

Why does your business exist?
Where do you want to take it?
How will it get there?
What will it cost?

The plan should include something about the following areas:

Executive summary
General company description
The opportunity, industry and market
Strategy
Business model
Team management and organization
Marketing plan
Operational plan
Financial plan
Appendices

Entrepreneur is a French word that means enter - to take charge. In the French dictionary in 1723, the word describes a person who organizes and operates a business by taking a financial risk.

Entrepreneurship is about turning what excites you in life into capital so that you can do more of it and move forward with it. - Richard Branson

Entrepreneurship is turning what you naturally love doing into a business and therefore having fun all your life. - Donald Trump.

Entrepreneurship is the pursuit of opportunity without regard to resources currently controlled which can be interpreted as limited resources. - Howard Stevenson

Intrapreneurship is the act of behaving like an entrepreneur while working within a large organization. Intrapreneurship is known as the practice of a corporate management style that integrates risk-taking and innovation approaches, as well as the reward and motivational techniques that are more traditionally thought of as being the province of entrepreneurship.

Characteristics of an entrepreneur

Do what you enjoy

What you get out of your business in the form of personal satisfaction, financial gain, stability and enjoyment will be the sum of what you put into your business

Take what you do seriously

You cannot expect to be effective and successful in business unless you truly believe in your business and in the goods and services that you sell.

Plan everything

Planning every aspect of your business is not only a must but also builds habits that every business owner should develop, implement and maintain.

A business plan also serves a second function, which is having your goals and how you will achieve them on paper. You can use the plan that you create both as a map to take you from point A to Z, and as a yardstick to measure the success of each individual plan or segment within the plan.

Manage Money Wisely

The lifeblood of any business enterprise is cash flow. All business owners must become wise money managers to ensure that the cash keeps flowing and the bills get paid.

Ask for the sale

A home business entrepreneur must always remember that marketing, advertising or promotional activities are completely worthless, unless one simple thing is accomplished - asking for the sale.

Remember it's all about the customer

Your business is all about your customers or clients; period.

Your customers are the people that will ultimately decide if your business goes boom or bust. Everything you do in business must be customer focused.

Become a shameless self-promoter (without becoming obnoxious)

Self promotion is one of the most beneficial, yet most underutilized marketing tool that the majority of home business owners have at their immediate disposal.

Project a positive business image

Make a conscious effort to always project the most professional business image possible.

Use imagination, creativity and attention to the smallest detail when creating and maintaining a professional image for your business.

Get to know your customers

The most significant competitive edge the home-based entrepreneur has over the larger competitors is that he can offer personalized attention.

The home business owner can actually answer phone calls, get to know customers, provide personal attention and win over repeat business.

It's a fact that the most businesses (80%) will come from repeat customers rather than new customers.

Level the playing field with technology

One of the amazing aspects of the internet is that a one or two-person business operating from a basement can have a superior website to a $50 million company and nobody knows the difference.

The best technology is that which helps you, not that which impresses your neighbors.

Build a top notch business team

No one can build a successful business alone. It's a task that requires a team that is as committed as you are to the business and its success.

The most important team members will be your customers or clients.

Become known as an expert

The more you become known for your expertise in your business, the more people will seek you out to tap into your expertise, creating more selling and referral opportunities.

Becoming known as an expert is another style of prospecting for new business - instead of finding new and qualified people to sell to, people seek you out for your expertise.

Create a competitive advantage

What separates your business from your competition?

Have a clearly defined unique selling proposition.

Invest in yourself

Top entrepreneurs buy and read business and marketing books, magazines, reports, journals, newsletters etc knowing that these resources will improve their understanding of business and marketing functions and skills.

They do this because they know that education is an ongoing process. There are usually ways to do things better, in less time, and with less effort.

Be accessible

Make it easy for people to do business with you. Be able to provide customers with what they want, when they want it.

Build a rock solid reputation

You can't buy a good reputation; it is something you earn by honoring your promises.

Consistency in what you offer is the other key factor. If you cannot come through with the same level of service (and products) for clients on a regular basis, there's no reason to trust you...and without trust you won't have a good reputation.

Sell benefits

Create buying excitement by selling the benefits associated with owning and using your products and services.

Get involved

Go out of your way to get involved in the community that supports your business.

People like to do business with people they know, like and respect, and with people who do things to help them as members of the community.

Grab attention

Every promotional activity you engage in must put money back in your pocket so you can continue to grab more attention and grow your business.

Master the art of negotiation

Mastering the art of negotiation means that your skills are so finely tuned that you can always orchestrate a win-win situation.

Get and stay organized

Establish a routine by which you can accomplish as much as possible in a given work day.

Take time off

Give yourself a backup hour or two. All work and no play makes you burn out very fast.

Limit the number of hats you wear

Know what tasks you are good at and those to delegate to others.

Follow up constantly

The real work begins after the sale.

It's easy to sell one product or service, but it takes work to retain customers and keep them coming back.

CHAPTER ONE | HER HUSBAND

Your marriage is like a football game. You and your wife are a team. She wants the security of knowing that when things are tough, you have the faith to believe that everything can turn around.

She wants you to trust that with God nothing is impossible, and because of that you will never give up hoping for the impossible to happen.

When your wife knows you are praying, she is confident.

To become the man, husband, and head of the home God wants you to be, is the most important place for a man to begin praying.

What is in our hearts when we pray has more effect on whether our prayers are answered than the actual prayer itself.

One of the best ways to honor your wife is to pray for her from a heart that is clean before God.

Praying for your wife must begin with praying for yourself.

Satan doesn't want your marriage to succeed and has set up a plan for its destruction. When you pray for your wife, it keeps the world at bay, it transforms selfish hearts, and it derails the devil's plans.

FIVE WAYS TO BE THE HUSBAND GOD WANTS YOU TO BE

1. BE OF ONE MIND

Prayer is the key by which unity in the marriage relationship can be maintained.

You and your wife may have separate work, interests, and activities, but if you are praying with and for one another regularly, it will keep you in tune and on the same path.

It is especially important to be of the same faith and beliefs. Your entire relationship is compromised if you are not on the same page in this area.

Your marriage will be a strong force for good if the two of you are of one mind.

2. BE COMPASSIONATE

To be compassionate toward your wife is to have a deep sympathy for any area in which she suffers and to have a strong desire to alleviate that suffering.

Part of being compassionate has to do with simply listening. Your wife is not expecting you to fix everything. She just needs to know that you hear her heart and care about how she feels.

Pray that God will give you a heart of compassion toward your wife and the patience to listen to her when she needs you to do so. It's a fine art worth cultivating. It can get you places with her where you've dreamed of being.

3. BE LOVING

Jack Hayford always said he could tell when a woman was truly loved by her husband, because she grew more beautiful as the years went on - an inner beauty that doesn't fade, but rather increases with time when a woman is loved.

You have no idea how much your love means to your wife.

Ask God to increase your love for your wife and enable you to show it in a way that makes her beautiful.

4. BE TENDERHEARTED

Prayer is a more tender and more certain way to see changes happen in your wife.

Criticism intended to make your wife change doesn't work. It will never give you the results you want. The only thing that works is prayer.

Remember that, though the ways you and your wife are the same can unite you, the ways you are different can keep things interesting.

5. BE COURTEOUS

Nothing is more upsetting, defeating, tormenting, suffocating, or emotion-provoking, nothing does more to bring out the worst in us, than a marriage where one of the partners is lacking in common courtesy.

Most men have no idea about the power of their voice. When a man speaks, his words have the power to create and the power to destroy.

It's not the words you speak, it's the power of God behind them that will make the difference. Praying first, before you talk about a sensitive subject, will give your words power and ensure that you speak them from a right heart.

Your wife will prove to be your greatest asset if you value and honor her.

Pray for God to help you speak to your wife in a courteous way that is pleasing in His sight, and to convict your heart when you do not.

As we improve individually, our marriages will also improve. Next to your love for her, the greatest gift you can give your wife is your own wholeness.

Please pray for yourself that:

1. You will be the husband God wants you to be.

2. You will know how to really love your wife.

3. You will be led by the Holy Spirit in all decisions.

4. You will be delivered from negative behavior.

5. You will speak words that build and not destroy.

6. You will have the desire to pray for your wife.

7. You will grow spiritually, emotionally, and mentally.

CHAPTER ONE | BECOMING A PRAYING PARENT

Our children’s lives don’t ever have to be left to chance.

At every stage of their lives our children need and will greatly benefit from our prayers. The key is not trying to do it all by ourselves all at once, but rather turning to the expert parent of all time—our Father God—for help.

We must cover every detail of our child’s life in prayer. There is great power in doing that, far beyond what most people imagine. In fact, don’t ever underestimate the power of a praying parent.

If we are parenting without God, we are destined to repeat the mistakes of our past and to mimic what we’ve observed.

Keep the details of your child’s life covered in prayer. Identify every concern, fear, worry, or possible scenario that comes to mind as a prompting by the Holy Spirit to pray for that particular thing.

It’s better to pray more along the lines of “Lord, show me how to pray for this child. Help me to raise him Your way, and may Your will be done in his life.”

It’s the power of God that penetrates a child’s life when a parent prays.

What Is Prayer and How Does it Work?

Prayer is acknowledging and experiencing the presence of God and inviting His presence into our lives and circumstances. It’s seeking the presence of God and releasing the power of God which gives us the means to overcome any problem.

Because it’s God’s power and not ours, we become the vessel through which His power flows. When we pray, we bring that power to bear upon everything we are praying about, and we allow the power of God to work through our powerlessness.

Praying not only affects us, it also reaches out and touches those for whom we pray. When we pray for our children, we are asking God to make His presence a part of their lives and work powerfully in their behalf.

If we are praying, something is happening, whether we can see it or not.

It’s not enough to pray only for the concerns of the moment; we need to pray for the future, and we need to pray against the effects of past events.

God’s Word as Your Weapon

The battle for our children’s lives is waged on our knees. When we don’t pray, it’s like sitting on the sidelines watching our children in a war zone getting shot at from every angle. When we do pray, we’re in the battle alongside them, appropriating God’s power on their behalf. If we also declare the Word of God in our prayers, then we wield a powerful weapon against which no enemy can prevail.

When you are praying for your child, include an appropriate Scripture verse in your prayer.

You don’t have to have a different verse for each prayer. You may have one or two verses that you use repeatedly during a specific season of intercession for your child.

When we employ God’s Word in prayer, we are laying hold of the promises He gives us and appropriating them into the lives of our children. Through His Word, God guides us, speaks to us, and reminds us He is faithful. In that way, He builds faith in our hearts and enables us to understand His heart. This helps us to pray boldly in faith, knowing exactly what is His truth, His will, and our authority.

If we WATCH Him, WALK with Him, WAIT on Him, WORSHIP Him, and live in His word, WE WILL WIN this battle for our children.

Whenever you pray for your child, do it as if you are interceding for his or her life—because that is exactly what you are doing. Remember that while God has a perfect plan for our children’s lives, Satan has a plan for them too.

Binding Satan’s plans in prayer is part of resisting the devil. Resisting him on behalf of our children can free them to make godly choices.

Our children will stand accused until we break the stronghold of the accuser in prayer, using the Word of God as hard evidence against him.

When the Answers Don’t Come

If your child has made poor choices, don’t berate yourself and stop praying. Keep communication lines open with your child, continue interceding for him or her, and declare God’s Word. Instead of giving up, resolve to be even more committed to prayer.

Stand strong and say, “I’ve only begun to fight,” keeping in mind that your part of the fight is to pray. God actually fights the battle. Remember, too, that your fight is not with your child, it’s with the devil. He is your enemy, not your child. Stand strong in prayer until you see a breakthrough in your child’s life.

If you could do one thing to transform your life, I would highly recommend that you find something you're passionate about, and do it for a living.

Dare to dream, dare to imagine the possibilities, and dare to actually search for what you love because it's need not only be a possibility but a probability.

What is passion?

Passion is the powerful feeling of enthusiasm we all have inside of us.

Why is passion so important?

When we are enthusiastic and proud of the work we do, the better equipped we'll be to overcome the many obstacles that will surely arise in the process of starting a business or moving up in any given career.

The more enthusiasm we have, the more inclined we are to work harder at improving ourselves.

The better we get at our work, the better we get paid for doing it.

10 reasons why knowing and leaving your passion is important

1. It Builds Confidence

When you're passionate about something you're confident in doing it, and carrying out tasks associated with it.

Passion gives a natural level of confidence to and about the thing it's associated with.

2. You Never Stop Growing

Passion encourages you to learn and gain knowledge in a specific thing.

You never stop growing in your area of passion; you learn and grow because you want to and the desire is there because of your passion.

3. It Delivers Profit

Use your talents and knowledge as gifts to edify and profit. Passion can be a way of life that produces income.

4. It Precedes Happiness

Succeed or fail, when you make an attempt to go after, live in, or work with your passion, happiness is always the end result.

5. You're Being Honest With Yourself

The chase and thrill that comes with your journey is rewarding. If you profit greatly from your passion, the feeling of satisfaction you receive is superior to the amount of profit.

6. The Direction Of Your Life Is Established

You know where you're going, or at least where you want to go. Knowing and following your passion helps you hit your target.

Living your passion gives you something to live for.

8. Passion Gives You The Ability To Focus

It gives you purpose and clarity. Passion allows you to narrow your sights on a particular target.

9. Passion Inspires

Passion comes from the Latin word"passio" which means "to suffer". It is so strong that you are willing to suffer to see your passion become a reality. Passion is what you hunger for so intensely that you will sacrifice anything to have it.

10. Passion Is Influential

Passionate people attract attention. When you attract the attention of others, you become an inspiration to them and, therefore, an influence.

Characteristics Of Passionate People

They have a deep sense of purpose and are often selfless in their actions.

Their clear sense of purpose in life seems to lead to attitudes of gratitude, kindness, compassion and selflessness.

They are authentic and real.

Passionate people know themselves. They have a clear sense of their values and beliefs, and they live by them. They also know their strengths and their weaknesses, focus on the things they are good at and enjoy.

They except themselves as imperfect and growing.

Those that are passionate see themselves as growing and changing.

Passionate people allow themselves to be vulnerable, knowing that vulnerability out of being alive - denying it leads to a false sense of self.

They see life as a series of choices and options.

Passionate people see the big picture that life presents.

They think outside the box in creative and innovative ways and they welcome change as part of the process of finding and living new passions.

They take action to leave their passions every day.

Passionate people see life as a precious thing that could be taken away anytime. They have a sense of urgency to their day. They tend to focus on the most important things in their lives, letting go of what they see as trivial - such as the pressures created by society, media, and others to act or be a certain way. Passionate people plan and set goals but are flexible in their thinking. They do not lock themselves in to achieving goals that are no longer consistent with their values, beliefs and purpose in life.

They are enthusiastic about the success of others.

Passionate people have a deep sense of caring and compassion for others that often shows itself in a sense of enthusiasm about the success of others. They sincerely want others to be happy and experience good things in life.

The take responsibility for their lives I'm not afraid to ask for support.

They take full responsibility for their decisions, but when they need additional information, new skills, or perhaps mentoring from an expert, they quickly seek it out.

How To Discover Your Passion

Revisit your childhood. What did you love to do?

So just making a list of all the things you remember enjoying as a child.

Research shows that there is much to be discovered in play, even as adults.

Revisit some of the positive activities, foods and events of childhood.

Make a "Creativity Board"

When you surround yourself with images of your intention, who you want to become or what you want to create, your awareness and passion will grow. - Michalko

Make a list of people who are where you want to be

Study people who have been successful in the area you want to pursue.

No matter what the business is, there are always people who are successful in it. Study them, figure out how and why they are able to remain successful when everyone else is folding up and then set up structures to emulate them.

If you want to be creative, create a rigorous and formal plan. It's not the plan that is creative; it's the process that you go through that opens up so many possibilities.

Start doing what you love, even without a business plan.

Do what you enjoy - even if you haven't figured out how to monetize it. Test what it might be like to work in an area you're passionate about. Build your business network and ask for feedback that will help you develop and refine a business plan.

It's a way to not only show the value you would bring, but you can also get testimonials that will help launch your business when you're ready to make it official.

Take A Break From Business Thinking

After you take a mental vacation doing something you're passionate about, I suggest you pick up your jotter and write down any business idea that comes to mind. You'll be amazed at how refresh your ideas are.

Looking at beautiful things; art and nature create connections that often neglect to notice. Notice them and stick to them.

Brainstorm

Nothing comes to mind right away? Well get out a sheet of paper, and start writing down ideas. Anything that comes to mind, write it down.

Write everything down and evaluate it later.

Don't Quit Your Job Just Yet

If you find your calling, your passion, today - don't turn in your resignation tomorrow.

If you can do your passion as a side job, and build up the income for a few months or a year, that's even better. It gives you a chance to build up some savings (and if you're going into business for yourself, you'll need that cash reserve), while practicing the skills you need.

Give It A Try First

It's best to actually test your new idea before jumping into it as a career. Do it as a hobby or side job at first, so that you can see if it's really your true calling.

Do As Much Research As Possible

Know as much about your passion as possible.

Read every website possible on the topic, and buy the best books available. Find other people, either in your area or on the Internet, who do what you want to do for a living, and quiz them about the profession.

Often, you'll find that people are more than willing to give advice.

Practice, And Practice, And Practice Some More.

Don't go into it with an amateur skill level. Want to make money - to be a professional, you need to have professional skills. Get very good at your future career and you will make money at it. Practice for hours on end. If it is something you love, the practice should be something you want to do.

Never Quit Trying

There may be more than one passion in your lifetime, so explore all the possibilities.

Success doesn't come easy, so giving up early is a sure way to fail.

Keep trying and you'll get there.
