SUMMARY ATTEMPT | WHAT IS MONEY | THE SECRETS OF MONEY AND HOW TO ATTRACT IT | PETER OSALOR | CHAPTER THREE

CHAPTER THREE | WEALTH LIMITING ATTITUDES

It's not your fault if you are born poor but it is your fault if you die poor. In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity. - Albert Einstein

I've met some brilliant business people in my time, but some of them will never be billionaires because they never act on those brilliant ideas. - Donald Trump

Whether it was inherited or eked out, making money requires some level of expertise to achieve. There's also the element of keeping the made money.

The mindset is where the victory is first won before it actually materializes.

To successfully make money, one must learn to control one's thirst to spend money especially without a plan. Business requires discipline to succeed in it.

Your Mindset

Who you are on a day-to-day basis comes from your mindset. Your mindset is the view you have of your qualities as well as your response and interpretation of situations.

The view you adopt of yourself profoundly affects the way you lead your life.

Your mindset is rooted in your beliefs. Your beliefs can limit your potential or enable your success.

If you believe that you need to work very hard to make ends meet, your thoughts will be structured by that belief and you will act on it. People with such mindsets are desperate for jobs and usually settle for any job that puts food on the table.

Your mindset marks the difference between excellence and mediocrity. It's also influences your self-awareness, your self-esteem, your creativity, your ability to face challenges, your resilience to setbacks, your levels of depressions and your tendency to stereotype, among other things.

There are two extreme types of mindsets:

The Fixed Mindset

This is when you firmly believe that you are who you are, period. No room for change (or growth).

The Growth Mindset

Growth mindset comes from the belief that your basic qualities are things you can cultivate through effort.

Carol Dweck describes people with a growth mindset as those who think of talents and abilities as things they can develop - as potentials that come to fruition through effort, practice and instruction.

A fixed mindset creates an urgency to prove yourself over and over. Criticism is seen as an attack on your character and to be avoided.

A growth mindset encourages learning and effort. Criticism is seen as a valuable feedback and openly embraced. The hallmark of the growth mindset is the passion for sticking with it, especially when things are not going well.

A growth mindset is a starting point for change. It doesn't mean you have to be working hard all the time, it just means you can develop whatever skills you want to put the time and effort into.

The group mindset believes people get smarter and they do so by stretching themselves and taking on challenges.

Money Mindset Myths

1. A penny saved is a penny earned.

In addition to saving, you must also multiply money you're saving to truly feel the effects. Saving money is good but you also need to earn more.

2. I don't need money help

Investing in a money coach will lead you down a safer road lined with superior choices, better decisions, and ultimately, a finish line you'd probably never reach alone. Invest in a money coach and train for financial success.

3. Budgeting saves me money

You can record your pluses and minuses all day, but if you're not acting on what you write, your budget means nothing. Carefully plot and plan, then follow through on your budget to see optimum success.

4. If I earn more, I can spend more.

Stick all your extra earnings in a special fund or savings account, then leave it there and watch it grow, rather than disappear.

5. If I don't risk it, I can't lose it

Playing a smart financial game means taking intelligent risks. You'll never make a mint if you don't make smart investments.

Know a good investment when you see it, and be smart enough to make it.

6. I make enough

Assets determine your worth if you want to grow your financial portfolio, you must find a way to start saving and investing.

7. My today is taken care of

Right now is when it's essential to plan ahead. What will your reserves be like as you head into retirement? Not putting away what you can now is a near guarantee that you won't have enough when you need it in the future.

Discipline, planning and financial consciousness are keys to achieving healthy money management.

SUMMARY ATTEMPT | WHAT IS MONEY | THE SECRETS OF MONEY AND HOW TO ATTRACT IT | PETER OSALOR | CHAPTER TWO

CHAPTER TWO | HIDDEN SOURCES OF MONEY

Stop chasing the money and start chasing the passion. - Tony Hsieh

From agriculture, to stocks and bonds and to other financial products, money is everywhere around us, it only takes knowledge and information to tap into these hidden treasures.

The Bank

It is possible to make money from the financial products that you use everyday.

Make money from your credit card by finding out what perks are available to you for subscribing to search cards and if you pay promptly.

Information is key. Most times we miss out on opportunities that are right before us because we do not ask simple questions. Take time out, go to your bank and talk to the customer service official there and ask extensively about products that will benefit you as an esteemed customer.

Your Savings

It's possible to make your money grow on its own by saving it in a high interest savings account that will see an amount of interest paid on your savings either monthly or annually. However, saving rates at the moment are nothing to write home about.

Investments

Instead of putting your money into cold storage, put it to work for you by investing it. Investing is the act of committing money or capital to an endeavor with the expectation of obtaining an additional income or profit.

You can visualize the concept of investing as an extension of you - your money is working when you are not. Working for a monthly wage as many of us grew up knowing cannot get us to achieve the kind of wealth we desire.

Certificate of Deposit

CDs are among the safest investment a person can make. The interest rate is determined ahead of time and you are guaranteed to get back what you put in plus interest once the CD matures.

Agriculture

Everyone must eat at some point everyday. This therefore is a pointer that agriculture is a viable and thriving business only if we would look beyond the dirty hands to the amount of money made each day all over the world from it.

One of the thriving areas in any economy in this world is agriculture because people whether rich or poor, employed or unemployed, white or black will ALWAYS have an urge to eat and that is where I 'agribusiness' comes in.

Agriculture went run and managed properly as a business, will not only provide you good money but will also provide food and enjoyment for you and many others. There is nothing no class about feeding multitudes and getting paid for it.

Start small (even if you have the capacity to start big) then expand little by little.

There are various low maturing vegetables that are ready for harvest in less than a month and with proper management you can be making healthy profit from it.

In the Sea

You can make a business out of selling sand from the bottom of the water. Sand is very much needed and good quality sound can be found right underneath us.

Under the Earth: Mining

Every nation of the Earth has mineral deposited beneath the ground by nature. A large percent of these minerals are still lying beneath the Earth, yet to be extracted.

Everything will depend on is either made from minerals or relies on minerals for his production. There are even many more hidden treasures that we have not yet discovered or taking full advantage of.

You

You are the most important of all other hidden natural resources. Every natural resource can create money but it cannot harness itself to generate the money.

You are the one who can use your passion, talent, skills, attitude etc.

You are the reason the money is there. Your ability provides solution to people's needs.

No nation in the world that undermines its human capital succeeds. Human capital is wealth, the most viable resource for any nation.

Maintain the right attitude towards money because your attitude towards money determines your velocity towards riches.

SUMMARY ATTEMPT | WHAT IS MONEY | THE SECRETS OF MONEY AND HOW TO ATTRACT IT | PETER OSALOR | CHAPTER ONE

CHAPTER ONE | WHAT IS MONEY?

Money answers all things.

The hunger to make money, live well and be able to provide for the need of one and his family drives the average human being into either, seeking out legitimate means of getting the desired wealth or going to any length to get it.

What is money?

Money is simply defined as a medium of exchange and a legal tender. It can further be described as a medium of exchange that facilitates trade.

Money serves three functions; it is a medium of exchange, a store of value and a unit of account.

Trade by Barter

Trade by barter can be described as the exchanging or swapping of goods and services for other goods and services. It was the acceptable medium of exchange before the introduction of money.

Characteristics of Money

1. Durability

In this sense, means the ability of the item to retain its shape, size and substance over a period of time.

Durability also extends beyond the physical realm to include social and institutional durability.

The durability of modern money, especially paper currency and the bank account balances, depends on the durability of social institutions - especially banks and governments.

The ability of a currency to be relevant and still have value over a period of time goes beyond the physical durability to the institutional stability of the government.

Another aspect of durability is an item that works as a medium of exchange precisely because it stores value from one transaction to the next.

2. Divisible

For an item to function as the medium of exchange, it must have increments that allow it to be exchanged for items, whether big or small.

3. Transportable

The need for ease of transportation played an important role in the progression of money to the way it is now.

4. Not Easily Counterfeited

Every economy needs the government of the day to regulate the total quantity of money in circulation. By controlling money duplication, governments are also able to control the total quantity in circulation, and this control is what gives money value in exchange.

Types of Money

Commodity Money

Commodity money started as barter. Unlike diamonds, metals can be melted down and reformed into smaller quantities for smaller purchases without losing value.

The Byzantine Empire had a perfect monetary system: the best in history. Commodity money is limited arbitrarily by the scarcity of the resource.

Gold Standard

The amount of gold in the world does not affect its ability to serve as money. Gold can be effectively traded in small quantities.

SUMMARY ATTEMPT | WHAT IS MONEY | THE SECRETS OF MONEY AND HOW TO ATTRACT IT | PETER OSALOR | INTRODUCTION

INTRODUCTION

Money is one of the most sought after and most talked about 'items' across the world.

In most parts of the world, the amount of money you have is proportionate to the way you are respected and responded to.

Making money may start with a desire but does not end there.

Money is not partial, money does not discriminate, money is color blind, money is not racist. Anyone can make or earn as much money he or she desires if they do the right thing. Money can also walk away if you do not respect it. Money is a seed that can be planted, nurtured, watered and can grow into a forest if you apply the correct principles.

The funny thing about money is that it is not taught in schools.

Money is not your certificate from college, your MBA will not make money for you. We need education, but in the 21st century what we will need most are skills, talents, critical thinking, collaboration, and creative skills.

Your money lies within you; your habits, talents, skills, attitudes, passion, hobbies, problem-solving character, providing solutions, meeting people's needs, thinking patterns, mindsets, beliefs, etc.

Money is around you wherever you are, be observant and do some research on how you can use what you see around you to make money. Money can be located in the Sea, under the ground and on earth - you must be sensitive to your environment.

You must have or develop an entrepreneurial mindset in order to command money.
