SUMMARY ATTEMPT | FIVE P'S TO A WOW BUSINESS | BILL MATTHEWS | CHAPTER THREE

CHAPTER THREE | PLANNING AS A PERPETUAL PROCESS

Many businesses have strategic plans, but few run their enterprises with an on-going planning process.

The real difference between the "WOW" companies versus the majority of others, is that they view planning as a living, breathing, perpetual process, not a project.

The plan defines specific outcomes and due dates with built-in accountabilities that will ensure its implementation and success, and it is regularly and relentlessly reviewed to make sure that it is still accurate so that changes can be made immediately in response to shifts in the marketplace.

Ten steps to create an initial plan and how to turn it into a perpetual process
1. Create a personal vision
2. Establish the organizational vision, mission, values and beliefs
3. Analyze the environmental factors at work in the marketplace
4. Identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats - "SWOT" Analysis
5. Revisit the organizational vision
6. Identify the key issues to be addressed
7. Establish quantitative expectations for each key issue
8. Create action plans, due dates, and assign responsibility
9. Allocate resources to accomplish the action plans
10. Establish and adhere to a regular planning review process
